Music And Dance

 Hello blogging world,
for the past few weeks we have been working extremely hard on dance and music. We first got into groups of 4 to 8. I had a group of 8. These people were in my group: Abby, Sky, Nethya, Hilary, Sam, Amie and Darlene. You can check out their blogs too. On Wednesday we had to perform it in front of Te Waka Ako. I am really proud of the dance we made up together. There were 14 groups and only 3 groups get to perform it in assembly. Here is a video of my dance below.

It was hard coming up with the dance but it turned out great. I was nervous when we had to perform it but fine when it was over. Feel free to comment down below and check out the rest of my learning!

The Crazy Science Show

Kia Ora blogging world,
Today our school had one bizarre scientists named Richard and one spectacular girl DJ named Robin. They came to our school to do a crazy science show. The show was based on chemicals. They started with simple magic tricks to warm us up like: red pom poms coming out of his mouth.

He then started the show with the old connecting rings trick and then some amazing rocket work. After that trick, he showed us how baby nappies work. He took out some powder from a baby nappy and mixed it with yellow water (pee). It then turned into a solid straight away.

My favourite part of the show was when he made a massive bubble. Some of his tricks were dangerous. I loved the science show! I was surprised that a ping pong ball can float in the air with a hair drying and won't fall if the hair dryer moves around. I'm definitely going to try some at home. I learnt that wheat can't be lit up with fire. I wonder what the size is of the biggest bubble in the world. I now want to find out more about science.

My Camp Booklet

Hi bloggers, last week the most of the year 5's and 6's went on an exciting camp to Mt Ruapehu. We had a choice of snowboarding and skiing. I chose snowboarding. We had so much fun. We stayed at a hotel 30 minutes away from the mountain. We stayed there for 4 days and 3 nights. We also had other stops like the aquatic centre, Hamilton gardens and other fun activities. Along the way we had some challenges. One of my challenges were trying not to lose my things because I am a very messy person. Check out my slide underneath.
At camp on Wednesday it was also my 11th birthday. I felt overwhelmed by the cake and mini party my friends threw for me. During camp I felt nervous because I haven't snowboarded before and it looked hard. Once I got the hang of it I was having the time of my life. I'm really happy I went and I hope that someday I can go again.Feel free to comment!

Our Visiting Poet:Judi Billcliff

About 3 weeks ago a famous poet came to our school for a visit. Her name is Judi Billcliff. She read us some of her best selling books and did some plays with us. Judi came because it was book week at our school and we were looking at poetry. We also had a poetry competition. Some people volunteered to join a play. Judi Billcliff is a really funny poet. Below are some photos of us having fun and bonding with Judi.

We had heaps of fun with Judi. We learnt heaps about her and her background. If you would like you can visit one of her websites at http://www.rainbowpoetry.co.nz/ Please feel free to comment and check out the rest of my learning blog!

Mountain Subjects

On Thursday the for inquiry Senior Syndicate paired up and made a padlet. We wrote down a list of things we thought we wanted to research. Our suggestions had to be relevant to mountains. Take a look the padlet we made.

Since we were in groups, we came up with lots of ideas. My topic is skiing and snowboarding. I chose this because were going camp in a few weeks and we are going to be snowboarding. So I want to learn about it and be prepared. Feel free to comment and check out the rest of my learning.

Building a Tent Model

Hi bloggers,
yesterday for maths we had to build a tent model out of tooth picks and modelling clay. Our task was to build a small tent model with shapes. I used a rectangle, squares and trapezoids. I also built a little camp fire.

During the making of this I had problems. One of the problems was that my model kept on falling down because the modelling clay wasn't holding the tooth picks together in place. I  found out that after a while the model collapsed because of the modelling clay.
This is my model!

I found it hard trying to make it stable so it doesn't fall. I think my shape was really good and strong. You also needed to be very focused and patient. Overall I think I did really well and I had great shapes. I would love it if you left a comment and checked out the rest of my learning blog!

Cybersmart Comic Strip

Hi bloggers, last week in Cybersmart we were learning how to be safe and sensible online. First we had to get into groups of 2 or 3. Next we had to create a comic strip showing what not to do and showing how to fix it. We also had to organise our email uses. The categories were : appropriate for school account, appropriate for own account and inappropriate. After that we wrote a statement saying why we should or shouldn't have our emails. Have a look and feel free to comment!
